Discover how to find potential funders for nonprofits in this introductory workshop. The session will provide a brief overview of Forefront Library’s Online Research guides, the basics of prospect research, using your library’s resources and freely available tools to supplement your grant search, and a deeper look at the foundation center’s database, foundation directory online (FDO). The workshop also includes hands on, guided research using FDO. Forefront’s library is a foundation center funding information network training partner.
SPEAKER: Christina Caputo is the Knowledge Services Manager at Forefront. She directs the Kowledge Services at Forefront (formerly Donors Forum) which is Illinois' statewide association that services the social impact sector, providing crucial support to nonprofits, grantmakers, advisors and allies.
Christina will be coming to us live via Zoom from Forefront’s headquarters in Chicago. One of the core resources she will be showing us is The Foundation Directory Online which Brookens Library subscribes to (over 250,000 funders in it and an invaluable resource). Remote access to this database is limited to UIS faculty, staff & students. However, community people can access it by coming to campus. If you are a community person and would like to be able to do hands on during her demonstration, the classroom in the library will be dedicated to that. Please arrive early so that we can make sure your laptop is connected to the UIS Wi-Fi Network before the workshop begins promptly at 10AM. If you do not have a laptop, we will have some library laptops available for workshop participants. Participants are invited to stay after the workshop and explore The Foundation Directory Online.
